A window is an important factor in creating a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. Moreover, providing preferred view out can contribute positively to the occupant satisfaction and the economic value of the building can be increased. This study investigated the visual effect of different window views on the subjective impression. The natural, man-made and mixed(natural, man-made) scenes from far to close distances were chosen as the view images. The subjective experiment was carried out in a controlled laboratory. A simulated window with the size of 1.2m¡¿1.2m was developed and the view images(0.9m¡¿0.9m) were pasted on the window plane. The results indicated that there were noticeable variations in the subjective impression of view images. Specifically, natural view showed positive impressions while man-made view showed negative impressions in overall criterion. This would indicate that the natural contents of the view are an influential factor in the view assessment. The results also confirmed that the subjective evaluation between the distant and near views showed no significant difference. This implies that the distance of views would not be a determinant factor in determining the subjective impression of views. |
