In the past, a lot of structures have suffered from serious damages by a pounding that has been usually caused by earthquake. In this work, we studied the seismic performance of pounding in bridges under earthquake by the Hertz Model. The results of research show that installing the rubber bearings with secured gap of expansion joint leads to decrease of 25% of maximum displacement, 26% of maximum acceleration and 27% of maximum pounding force. The procedure was found to be more effective in preventing of pounding and to improve safety. |
