Recently, many tall buildings have been constructed and planned in Korea. But, KBC 2009 is not adequate for designing these tall buildings, because it has no adequate provision for the special structural systems of these tall buildings and does not contain the exceptions for designing tall building. An alternative procedures for seismic analysis and design for tall buildings were published in USA, Japan, and China and based on capacity design method. The objective of this paper is to show the problems and improvements in designing tall buildings in Korea through comparing the alternative design procedure for tall buildings in other countries. |
