In today's pursuit of a global city, expansion of urban infrastructure calls for restoration of the city publicness. For this reason the present research on Jagalchi Market, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the global city of Busan, aims to provide a basis for improving the public design of the market with various measures involving the subject area's current status report, internal environment analysis, and tourist survey. The results reported the overall quality of its pedestrian environment inadequate, with the lack of facilities such as benches and trash cans. They also indicated tourists' demands for diverse in the shopping street and for sanitary environment. Regardless of the business nature, the shop owners share the view that the market needs an improvement on the whole. For enhancing Jagalchi Market's public design, therefore, there should be sufficient arrangement and management of facilities by which to provide a decent pedestrian environment as well as to maximize tourist convenience. The present research's interest is to be a possible contributor for the development of a localized public design reflecting regional characteristics with anticipation of the market's future as a nationally representative fish market and a successful tourist hotspot. |
