¿ä¾à2 To reduce potential problems of a large area of window systems such as excessive heating and cooling load, glare and asymmetric thermal radiation, double skin systems have been introduced. However, there is too little information on their performances (energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, ventilation) depending on controls and configurations. This paper aims to investigate energy performance of the system depending on various configurations (cavity depth, location and type of glazing, reflectance of the louver slat). It was found that double skin systems can reduce significant building energy consumption compared to 24mm double glazing with interior blinds. It was shown that a louver reflectance, and location and type of glazing are significant in terms of energy use while difference in cavity depth has little influence. The paper suggests what should be considered in the process of design and control of double skin systems.
