Excessive outdoor lighting of building facades or advertising sign lighting can cause light pollution. To limit the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting within tolerable level, CIE and over one hundred cities in USA established lighting recommendations. Recently Seoul metropolitan government also started to establish design guidelines for architectural outdoor lighting. However, exterior lighting is essential in commercial buildings which can attract the customers and promote the sales. Therefore, proper lighting principle should be considered in order to prevent light pollution in commercial buildings. This study investigated and analyzed the factors that causes light pollution in shopping complexes. Three shopping complexes located in Dondaemun-gu area were selected. The outdoor lighting in building facades and sign lighting luminance were measured using ProMetric1400. The result showed that the direct upward lighting and high-wattage luminaries caused light pollution in shopping complexes by exceeding up to three times the CIE recommendations. |
