Today, owing to technological advancement in medical science and economic development, the average life span of male and female citizens in our society continue to increase. The elders in the modern society are spending the later years in their life in a new living culture provided by diverse fields. Also, the demand for the living quality of the residential environment continues to rise. Due to the influence of aging and urbanization, urban type silver towns are rapidly being developed. However, the residents in the urban type silver towns are a group that shows decline in societal activities and social interaction. Therefore, the public space should be planned so that it can support the daily life and health of the elders and facilitate their sociability. The needs for the public space includes increase in the sense of belonging, activation of the community, nurturing of local community culture, and production services. This study analyzed precedent studies on urban type silver towns located in Seoul and conducted on-site surveys. Thus, this study aims to find out the planning features of space organization of the public spaces in urban type silver towns as to provide the basic materials for planning spaces for the elders. |
