The city of Milan spread to present day in a circular shape of several layers from the center formed in the early stage of Rome, and consequently the city cannot but be composed of strong tendency of centripetal nature. Growing to a key city for the economy of Italy, the city became no longer able to comprehend the ever extending population and flow of urban citizens which spread throughits entire region while previously they relied only on the existing city center facilities. As new local government was launched in the 2000s and new image of the city of Milan is created, large scale city reconfiguration project shaped up. The city reconfigurationplan for Milan is to change to multi-focal structure that spreads the centripetal nature of history center to the entire region of Milan city. This plan may be deemed meaningful in that it offers an opportunity to look back on the conflict between "development and preservation" which are experienced in our nation, and environment-friendly city regenerating method. |
