Daylighting is one of the major elements in architectural design. It also plays an important role in the exhibition space focused on displaying artistic works. Many architects have tried to predict daylighting performances in exhibition spaces during the design process. The aims of this study are to classify the shapes of the toplight systems and to examine the spatial characteristics of exhibition spaces used in various toplight systems and to help architects choose proper daylighting systems when they design art galleries. According to this study, three toplight systems such as the horizontal skylight, the inclined sawtooth and the monitor system were mainly used for exhibition spaces in art galleries. Among them, the monitor system was the most effective daylighting system for the exhibition spaces. |
