Many traditional city in Korea have recently suffered from economic declination, deteriorated urban environment, and population decrease. To solve the problems of urban decline, sustainable development plan is required such as urban regeneration. These cities in advanced countries now focus their efforts on the urban regeneration and livable city. Moreover, urban regeneration governance has been established mainly with the partnership of governmental and non-governmental organizations for regional development. On the other hand, it can be said that Korea is on the way from the expansion in quantity to the development in quality. After the characteristics of the city is identified and the definite vision and goals for the city decided, an effective organizations and roles should be established and active promotion for the city should be started with entrepreneurial initiatives. Most of all, there should be residents' voluntary participation and efforts to make the city a better place to live. |
