Discomfort glare is an important factor influencing appraisal for healthy lighting environment. For evaluating discomfort glare, several formulae have been suggested and used to assess discomfort glare. The degree of discomfort glare can be expressed by physical factor such as the luminance of the glare source, the solid angle subtended by the source, the angular displacement of the source and background luminance. The discomfort glare has been evaluated in presence of size, brightness and position of glare source. On the other hand, relation between background luminance and discomfort glare is still the object of research and discussion. The aim of this study is to evaluate discomfort glare according to background luminance. The experiment was conducted on the Glare Tester. 10 subjects participated in the experiment. The results showed that the degree of discomfort glare was constant when the background luminance became higher in case of large glare source. Moreover, the values of discomfort glare decreased with the small glare sources. |
