As we embody architecture in space and physical form, module, axis, grid, and etc. has always been used as a basic vocabularies defining design processes. Among those basic vocabularies, the word 'grid' has been used for longest years while accumulating many backgrounds. It has varied the utility from embodying architect's mentality to a way of expressing intension from the frame of portion-standard in designing process. However, due to development of scientific technology it has limits in architecturally applying adhered grid system to modern architecture, that is complicated, uncertain, and needs to comprehend various characteristics, is broadening and transforming beyond its acknowledgeable area, which occurs many problems with grid system because the grid system was just made for keeping standardized and simplified form in order. This study's main purpose is to suggest an alternative way to overcome the limits of standard-composition grid, that paying attention to numerous ways that variant grid is applied in modern architecture and seeking for meaning and potential of the grid system. |
