Korean society needs more silver facilities due to the rapidly increasing number of elderly. Ubiquitous means that built environments(city, building, and unit) are networked by IT infrastructures, and thus people not only use IT devices but also get ubiquitous service anytime and anywhere. In addition, the built environments are accommodated by personally specific needs and demands. Korea has the best IT infrastructure in the world. This study proposes a design guideline to apply the ubiquitous technology to silver town design, while focusing on the world best IT infrastructure. Specifically, the study defines the architectural features responding to physical and psychological changes with aging. The ubiquitous technology is applied to the silver town design and embedded in its system for transforming the defined elderly's needs to architectural features, The scope of study is limited in an ubiquitous sliver town by focusing on a community, a building, and an unit. A literature review and a case study, as research methods, are utilized to find out the status quo of IT infrastructure and ubiquitous technology. Then, the multi-methods, which consist of a literature review, a case study, and an interview, are applied to categorize the common disease types, lifestyles, and needs of the elderly. The categories are developed as architectural spaces and systems, as well services provided Finally, a design guideline for designing U-silver town is provided. The study concludes that the proposed U-silver town design guideline can increase the life quality and housing welfare of the elderly. |
