¿ä¾à2 This study presents a non-prismatic beam element for modeling the elastic and inelastic behavior of steel beams, which have the post-Northridge(cover plate) connections in steel moment frames. The elastic stiffness matrix, including the shear effects for non-prismatic members with cover plate(IBS) connections, is in closed-form. The element can be used with computational efficiency to estimate exactly the elastic maximum story drift ratios of frames with IBS connections. Also, since the element employs hardening rules to handle monotonic, cyclic, and local buckling behavior, it can be an efficient tool to investigate the inelastic behavior of steel moment frames with IBS connections.
