The tsunami assessments for nuclear power plant sites in Korea have been carried out for tsunami caused by the active fault source from northeastern part of East sea. After mega tsunami occurred near Sumatra Island on December 26th, 2004, the tsunami hazard by far away earthquake source in the sea was brought to the fore and the reliability of historical tsunami records were re-examined. We have considered three tsunamigenic source area such as central Yellow sea, northwest seaside from Kyushu, Japan and Ryukyu plate boundary area additionally for examination of tsunami risk assessment to the NPP sites. To simulate the tsunami occurrence and propagation, the fault parameters for tsunamigenic earthquakes should be determined in the source area. According to the procedure of fault parameter determination, the possible tsunamigenic sources for the three area have been inferred to assess the affection to the NPP sites from tsunami. |
