The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of collapse-resistance of a Cover Plate steel moment-resisting connection, which is one of post-Northridge steel moment frame connection types proposed by FEMA/SAC project, against collapse. The performance of the Cover Plate connection was compared with that of other post-Northridge connection types such as post-Northridge WUF-B and RBS connections. A three-story SAC building was selected as an example building. Not only the performance against collapse but also the seismic performance were investigated for comparison. Beam drift demand was used for an engineering demand parameter. The result showed that the Cover Plate connection behaves better than the other connections in terms of both collapse- and earthquake- resistance. |
