This study is synthetic and analytical work on Korean courtyard houses since 1990 designed by Korean architects. It aims to understand the current use of courtyard space. The courtyard of the traditional courtyard-house in the past was a multi-purpose and living-oriented space. However, the concept of a courtyard gradually disappeared in our time owing to changes in lifestyle and the internalization of the living room. The intention of the architect is analyzed through research on the current use of a courtyard in a courtyard-house that was recently designed by some architects. Also, the courtyard, which is not currently utilized, and its problems were investigated. Further, with a construction plan oriented approach for courtyard-house based on the advantages of courtyard style, household with the three generation family plane patterns suitable for family oriented space utilization and aging of family members were presented. |
