Generally, intercity artery road connecting new town with its central city detours the new town area, for it affects the environment of the new town. One of the most serious environmental problems from the road is traffic noise. Noise may pose a significant health hazard to the residents. On the other hand the detoured artery road results in more energy and time consumption due to longer access distance to the road. Based on the conception that road shape influences noise propagation, this research proposed several road shapes to a passing artery road through a new town and simulated the traffic noise to its adjacent area. The SoundPlan, a commercial noise simulation software, was used for this task. As a result a depressed road reduced the noise during its propagation much more than flat and elevated one. The research confirmed that the type and arrangement of buildings in the adjacent area are also important planning factors to reduce the traffic noise. |
