¿ä¾à2 This study is an attempt to generalize the building plan's transition of private builders' urban houses of Korea since 1950 focused on the authority permitted drawings from 1983 to 2003 of Multi-Family Houses of Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, and to verify the typological continuity between traditional housing characteristics and present housing characteristics of Korea.
Preceding researchers described the cultural continuity of private builders' houses as follows ; ¨ç continuance of 'madang' the courtyard and the fences surrounding the yard and house ¨è the east main gate and south-oriented house layout ¨é right angle approach to entrance hall from main gate ¨ê the residents' experience process of road -> fence(main gate) -> courtyard 'madang' -> living room 'daecheong' or 'geosil'-> master bedroom 'anbang' ¨ë far separation of 'anbang' from main gate or entrance hall.
But the analysis of the Gangnam-gu's collected data shows that almost all the cultural continuity collapsed since the regulation changes in accordance with the appearance of private builders' multi-family houses since 1980s except the 5th characteristics of cultural continuity. Therefore, this hypothesis is expected to be verified by following researches focusing the other areas of Korea in order to establish the main transition stream of the urban housing type including apartment in the modernization process of Korean society.
