요약2	Mies van der Rohe's works before 1930 has been understood as having the two contrary characteristics, one was the stylistic and conservative trait before 1920 and the other was his typical modernist trait after 1920 which was taken in radical aesthetics of architectural Avant-Garde. However, it is the fact that there was a developmental progress in the series of his houses before 1930, because this kind of dichotomy is based on the early 20th century modernist architectural theories. Therefore, this study aims at grasping the developmental progress of the design strategies in Mies's houses before 1930, especially focused on the compositional aspect between the plan and the mass in constructing a three-dimensional building from the two-dimensional house programs. To achieve this purpose, firstly, the two categories, which were the response of turn-of-the-century common house design strategies to construct a spatial organization from programs, were investigated, and Mies's strategies before 1920 were analyzed on the basis of the categories. Secondly, by the inquiry about attitudinal changes that occurred in the modernist design conditions, his strategies after 1920 were analyzed. Consequently, according to the chronological study, it was investigated that his tendency to maintain a compositionally firm relationship between the plan and the mass remained coherent, which meant that Mies's house design strategies before 1930 were not discontinuous but developmental.
