¿ä¾à2 In Korea, apartment housing account for more than half of the forms of housing and there has been a steady increase in the number of high-rise apartment housings in urban areas.
A precedent of the court says that those in a residential area should be guaranteed the right to enjoy uninterrupted sunlight for more than two hours between nine a.m. and three p.m. or for more than four hours between eight a.m. and four p.m. during the winter solstice. However, there are many cases in which such a right is not guaranteed with many high-rise buildings built in residential areas.
Realistically, it is difficult to follow the aforesaid precedent, waiting for the winter solstice to measure the sunshine access right in a place of dispute. Thus, courts adopted a method to measure the sunshine access right using a three-dimensional computer simulation. This enables the user to determine how much sunlight is actually enjoyed by residents in apartment housing. However, the method has a serious problem. The measurement results can differ, depending on the characteristics of the simulation program adopted, and can be erroneous, if the input data, such as the shape and height of the buildings in question, the distance between the buildings or the level of the site, are not accurate.
This paper offers a simulation method, using the Autodesk VIZ 2006 and the VIEW program developed by the participants and verifies the efficacy of the method by comparing it with the results of measuring actual duration of sunlight in apartment housing.
