일반적으로 기하학은 인간의 세계에 대한 이해와 이에 대한 논리적 실체로서 공간적 논의에 대해 지대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 사전적 의미에 의하면, 기하학은 공간에 대한 연구이며 건축은 기하학의 구성과 분할에 의한 공간의 창조라고 할 수 있다. 고대 그리스의 공리적 사고를 체계화한 유클리드 기하학은 19세기말까지 서양의 절대적 이성으로 군림해 왔으며, 이는 근대 건축의 공간구성에 있어서도 기본적인 체계로 작용해 왔다.
그러나 최근 해외의 몇몇 건축가들에 의해 실험되고 또 실현되고 있는 공간의 접힘 현상이나 변형에 의한 부정형 공간, 뫼비우스의 띠와 같은 연속순환 개념은 유클리드 기하학이 아닌 위상기하학에 그 이론적 바탕을 두고 있다.
과학과 철학에 나타난 근대적 패러다임의 전환은 건축에 있어서 기존의 체계에 도전하는 새로운 시도로 전개되었고, 1990년대 이후 몇몇 신진 건축가들은 자신들의 이론적 배경을 과학과 철학의 변화된 세계관에 두고 이러한 변화의 흐름을 건축에 반영하고 있다.
하나의 공간은 철학과 과학 그리고 이에 따라 형성된 건축론을 배경으로 하고 있으며, 궁극적으로는 제한된 물리적 실체의 요소에 의해 규정된다. 공간의 연계성 개념은 단절과 연속성, 동질성과 개별성의 중간에서 설정된 개념이다. 공간적 연계성의 논리는 결합의 방법과 요소들에 의해 규정될 수 있으며, 이는 본질적으로 하나의 공간을 규정하는 요소에 의해 영향을 받는다. 현대건축에 나타나는 공간은 이상화된 선형적 결정모델에 입각한 근대적 특성을 보이나, 예측불가능의 비선형 현상을 표현하고 있다. 특히 최근에 실험되고 있는 ‘위상기하학적 공간(topological space)’은 근대건축의 이상화된 공간론과는 이론적 바탕을 달리하고 있는 것으로 생각된다.
이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 최근 현대건축에 나타나고 있는 접힘 건축의 공간적 특성을 분석하여, 위상기하학적 공간에 있어서 공간의 연계성을 파악하고 그 공간적 특성 및 개념을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. |

Since 1990s, several rising western architects have been moving their theoretical background from the modern paradigm to new science and philosophy. Architectural spaces are based on the philosophy and science of their own age and the architectural theories made by them. And specially, it seems that topological spaces are different to theoretical backgrounds from idealized spaces of modern architecture.
From these backgrounds, this study was performed to search for the spacial relationship and characteristics shown in the recently folding architecture and the results of this study that starts this purpose are as follows.
First, the architecture that introduced by the theory of topology has appeared as the circulating forms like as Mobius band or Klein bottle, and was made the space fused with structure pursuing liquid properties of matter. As follows, second, the concept of topological space made the division of traditional concept of floor, wall, ceiling disappeared and had built up the space by continual transformation. Third, about the relationship between two spaces in topological space, the two spaces were happened by transformation of these and they have always continuity and the same quality. |
