현대건축의 흐름을 살펴보면, 90년대 이후 건축은 인간에게 시각적, 심리적, 신체적으로 다양한 체험과 감동을 줄 수 있는 생동감 있는 건축언어의 추구가 나타나고 있다. 이런 경향은 특히 스위스 바젤을 중심으로 건축을 전개하고 있는 세계적인 건축가팀인 헤르조그와 드 뫼론(Herzog & de Meuron)의 작품에도 나타나고 있다. 그들의 건축은 현대 조형예술의 영향을 기반으로 하면서 기술과 재료에 의한 다양한 표현을 통하여 건축언어의 새로운 영역을 개척하고 있다.
그들의 건축은 80년대에는 미니멀리즘의 영향을 받았으나, 90년대 후반부터는 건축과 예술의 상호관계에 대한 연구를 통하여 현대 조형예술의 특성을 건축과 접목시킨 건축언어를 창조하여 독자적인 디자인을 전개하고 있다. 본 연구는 그들의 독창적인 건축언어를 분석하기 위하여 스위스 현대건축이라는 지역적 배경과 함께 80년대에서 현재에까지 이르는 시대적 흐름에 따른 건축언어의 변화도 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구의 핵심인 건축언어의 분석은 그들의 건축을 재료, 패턴, 형태라는 건축적 특징을 보여줄 수 있는 요소들로 그들의 언어를 분석하고자 한다. 또한 부수적으로 디자인적 사고와 표현에 영향을 준 예술가들의 작품도 부가, 비교하여 헤르조그와 드 뫼론의 건축을 차별화시키는 건축언어가 무엇인지 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구는 그들의 실험적 건축언어를 적용한 작품의 사례들의 분석을 통하여 현대건축의 흐름과 경향을 이해하고자 하는 것을 연구목적과 의의로 삼고자 한다. |

Contemporary Architecture stands on the basis of the influence of the formative arts , and it carves out a new field of architecture through various technical or material expressions.
Herzog & de Meuron, whose has been recognized internationally, are one of few artists following this Contemporary architectural flow. This thesis analyzed his work of art by the trend of times, and base on the results, tried to find his architectural language.
Three points have been concluded through this architectural thesis. The architectural language does not deal with our monotonous environment, but deals with it technically. It's expressed all the architectural factors that we already know and used through new ways, so that, finally, it makes people feel the work of art in different point of views.
I desire more future researches will focus on the many types of architectural and interior design languages that the Contemporary society craves. |
