‘기능주의(Functionalism)라는 획일성의 제 문제를 낳은 20세기 모더니즘건축에 대한 대안적 건축담론으로서 60-80년대에 ‘다양성’을 주제로 내세우는 '포스트모던건축', '해체주의건축' 등이 전개된다. 하지만 이들은 꼴라쥬적 표현이라는 ‘피상적 다양성’에 머물면서 오히려 새로운 획일성을 만든다는 비판에 서 있다.??이러한 상황에서 90년대 이후로 들뢰즈(G. Deleuze)의 ‘주름(fold)개념’을 적용하여,??'차이자체'를 본격적인 주제로 내세운, 이른바 ‘접힘(folding)의 건축’ 이 전개된다. 하지만 이 역시도 겉모습만 바뀌었을 뿐, 여전히 "불확정적인 형태구현(an-exact forms, topological geometries)“이라는 획일화된 주제로 수렴되는 경향을 감지할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이 같은 문제가 들뢰즈(G. Deleuze)의 ‘주름(fold)개념’을 잘못해석 한 결과라 판단하여 그 근원적인 오류의 원인을 추적하여 밝히며, 진정한 의미에서의 ‘근원적 다양성’을 수용하는 건축은 ‘주름(fold)개념’을 물질과 정신의 전체지평에 이르는 존재론적 개념으로 적용해야 함을 주장한다. 그리고 이러한 주장과 그 맥을 같이 하며 기존건축의 문제를 보완 할 수 있는 하나의 이론적 실마리이자 건축적 가능성으로서 다니엘 리베스킨드(Daniel Libeskind)의 이론과 작품세계를 제안 한다 |

The theoretical framework of "Folding in Architecture" has been generally regarded as the expression of the French philosopher, Gilles Deleuze's idea of the "fold" or pli originally from the characteristics of Leibniz's and Bergson's philosophy. However, actual works toward this architectural tendency are fundamentally different from Deleuze's ontological thinking because these were primarily fabricated as formal theme by architects always searching for the meaning of "fold" as only tangible attribute. Thus, this paper attempts to point out that controversial issue, and suggest a new meaning of "Folding in Architecture", which is truely based on Deleuze's broad meaning of the "fold" registered both as a material phenomenon and as a metaphysical idea, that can overcome the fallacy of those contemporary architects. |
