This paper aimed to find out the perceptions of the shared housing for three-generation family by the 50s residing in Seoul and its outskirt area. Questionnaires were collected from 556 respondents and analyzed by SPSS program. Main findings of the research were as follows:1) Most of respondents agreed with that 31~40 pyung was the minimum size??as the shared housing, including elder's own room of bed- sitting type with 15 pyung . 2)The pair-house was considered as an ideal type for three-generation family. It was remarkable that residing within 10~30 minutes walking distance as well as the pair- house was rather preferred to cohabitancy with married child in a house.It meant perceptions of cohabitancy with married child by the 50s has been changed much in 10 years compared to the previous researches. 3) There were only 4% of the respondents who wanted cohabitancy with married child even if they got ill or frail. It indicated most of the 50s wanted more privacy and identy of their own, wishing not to be burden of children.
