There are numerous overseas museums that display Korean cultural relics, with more than ten of them operating independent Korean exhibition hall. This is the result of elevated national image of Korea from hosting the Olympics Games and an extraordinary growth that the country has shown, in addition to the recognition that the Korean cultural assets do in fact have distinguishable differences from those of Chinese and Japanese. Those museums with Korean exhibition halls are, in most cases, of international scale and worldly known, and their displays involve operating the exhibition halls of international, including various Eastern, countries. While the overseas cultural relics possess strong decorative feelings, the Korean cultural relics possess very simplistic and sentimental moods, thus it requires special exhibition designs to embrace such moods. Accordingly, the design of the exhibition halls, where the Korean cultural assets are displayed, should reflect the images of Korea in order to assist with easy and better understanding of the relics. Rather than focusing on using the latest display cases, illuminating lights, or diverse display methods, the focus should be on selecting the right display method based on the characteristics of the exhibiting relic. Furthermore, the exhibition environment should focus on assisting the viewers to discover the inner artistic nature of the relics by displaying adequately small number of the items in composed and spacious halls. |
