An exhibition space has to be a space where the general public can easily explore, participate, experience, and enjoy. This study investigated the characteristics of exhibition mediums in the Jeju region and analyzed the mediums for the content of the exhibitions and the exhibition spaces. It was designed to find out the direction of exhibition design to be pursued for the future. At first, Six places - the exhibition spaces at the Jeju-Do Folklore and Natural History Museum, the Jeju Education Museum, the Jeju Hang-il Memorial Center, the Jeju Shin-young Cinema Museum, Jeju Natural Museum, and O'Sulloc Museum- were chosen. Next, the distribution of the basic cultural facilities and the exhibition space availability were examined. Finally, the aspects of the production of an exhibition and how they are affected by the contents of the exhibit were analyzed. This included the medium used and the production of the exhibition, as well as consideration to whether the exhibit has a plain or special composition. The study suggests that the space for an exhibition in the Juju island, a tourist site, has to be actively considered to promote participation and pleasure. Therefore the space of an exhibition has to be designed to interact with the physical facility-the hardware of a medium in an exhibition, and a concept or scenario-the software of a medium in an exhibition. |
