The reinforced concrete appearing as a powerful constructional material, many architects tried to introduce it into their buildings. Dom-ino structure, proposed by architect Le Corbusier, turned out to be the most efficient method which can develop the possibility latent within this new material. It suppose a monolithe constructional method, and standard model with slabs and columns set back. This method make it possible that the facade and plan are freely designed without regard to structural system. Consequently Le Corbusier made a new tectonic of reinforced concrete by Dom-lno structure. To prove such a supposition, he also continued to experience Dom-ino system in his works. Especi¸±Iy Maison Dom-ino, Maison Citrohan, Villa Baizeau and Villa Shodan show typically how Dom-ino system was integrated with form and space. By the aná¤ysis of these works, Ive can see that Le Corbusier considered the contrast between skeleton and volume, the emphasis of monolithic contruction and the inÓoration of structure and space as a principᤠtectonic of reinforced concrete. |
