Sometimes, the classification of Kong-po style of Korean traditional building differs in opinion. Especially, if a Kong-po of a building is set only on the capital, its style can be classified into two different groups(Chu-sim-po or Chul-mok Ik-gong) according to the difference of view. The core of this paper focused on the heart of this trouble. Especially, I am interested in the variation of form and disposition of So-ro, because it is not only a component of Kong-po, but also a clue to grasping the composition method of Kong-po. Particularly, Ne-gal So-ro is more important than others, becuse it is indispensible in linking the elements in the direction of beam with the elements in the direction of purlin. As times go by, this original function of Ne-gal So-ro was weakened. And this nominal Ne-gal So-ro was disappeared from the highest. This disappearance of Ne-gal So-ro can be interpreted as some change in composing the Kong-po. That is, the function of So-ro(delivering upper load to lower part)was weakened, because the upper and the lower element of the So-ro were bonded together. The change first occurred from the elements in the direction of beam, and then transferred to the elements in the direction of purlin. On the other hand, the number of Chul-mok increased from one to two. In conclusion, the transition from Chu-sim-po to Chul-mok Ik-gong style was caused by the difference of composing method of Kong-po. And the Chul-mok Ik-gong building can be classified into three groups by the transitional step. |
