Kim, Swoo-Geun is considered as an architect who exerted himself for building up his own figurative world. To understand closely his world, it is essential to inquire his mental image offerring the basis of his figurativity. The formation of his mental image was much concerned with his experience of youth in Bukchon located in the northern area of old Seoul. During this period, his perceptive system was influenced by the form of Korean traditional houses showing original 'aggregative beauty'. They are also characterized with linear furrow of tiled roof. Kim's architectural figurativity is divided into three archetypes: A,P,M,A,the first represents the aggregation of small masses. P,the second emphasizes the plasticity of form and M,the third symbolizes the composition offorms through the contrast of horizontal and vertical elements. Among these three archetypes, A, connoting iverse architectural changement, takes the most important portion in Kim, Swoo-Geun's architecture. |
