19세기 독일의 건축이론가였던 고트프리트 젬퍼의 이론에서 연유된 피복이라는 개념은, 근대건축의 형성과정에서 막대한 영향을 미치면서도 부정적인 특질로 평가절하되어 왔다. 국제양식의 특성이라고 할 수 있는 피막과 볼륨의 효과는 사실상 비올레 르 듄의 이론에 근거를 둔 구축성의 표현보다는 그것을 숨기는 피복에 더 가까운 것이다. 본 논문은 젬퍼의 피복론이 로스의 피복의 원리로 계승되는 과정에서, 역사적이고 상징적인 장식의 제거된 상태를 추상적 피복으로 규정하고, 그것이 로스의 건축에서 어떤 양상으로 전개되었는가를 고찰한 것이다. |

The concept of 'Bekleidung(Dressing)' which was derived form the theory of Gottfried Semper, contradicts with the honest expression of material and consturction. Maybe 'Bekleidung' and 'Tectonics' might be the most important two motives in the development of modern architecture, but the former, as compared with latter, has been treated only negatively. In fact, the abstract 'Bekleidung' deprived of Gemperian symbolic ornament, roles as fundamental agent for estabilishing the modern architectural aesthetics composed with surface-volume. These aspects originated from the Adolf Loos's architecture. From this point of view, this study interpretates the abstract 'Bekleidung' of Adolf Loos without qualities as a screen for reticence of non-cultural reality(exterioty) and projection of Raumplan(interiority), which was impossible to reconcile harmoniously. |
