This study analyzed Landsat-8 satellite images from 2014 and 2023 to derive the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Land Surface Temperature (LST) for Dongjak-gu, Seocho-gu, and Yongsan-gu in Seoul. We assessed and compared these metrics at the administrative-dong level and quantified the Han River¡¯s cooling effect range. LST increased in Dongjak-gu but decreased in Seocho-gu and Yongsan-gu; NDVI decreased in all districts, most notably in Dongjak-gu. Correlation analysis showed predominantly negative relationships between LST and NDVI, with lower correlations in administrative dongs along the Han River. The effective and critical cooling effect ranges from the river were smallest in Dongjak-gu and largest in Yongsan-gu. Between 2014 and 2023, the cooling effect range increased in Seocho-gu but decreased in Dongjak-gu and Yongsan-gu.This study provides a temporal analysis of LST and NDVI changes and their correlations, offering foundational data for improving the thermal environment along the Han River by quantifying its cooling effect range. |
