This study begins with the question of how the various urban landscape produced as the leisure spaces increases in cities affects citizens. The purpose of this study is to investigate this through landscape theory included in Foucault¡¯s concept of governmentality ¡®dispositif¡¯ with the approach of political geography. Accordingly, Seonyudo Park and Mapo Culturetank were selected as examples of urban parks, which are representative urban leisure spaces in Seoul, as research subjects. The research method is a narrative landscape analysis using field works, photos, and archival documents to determine the visual, behavioral, and media landscape was analyzed. As a result of the study, in the process of makting Seonyudo Park and Mapo Cultural Reserve Base, the local government performs governmentality by producing specific discourses and standardizing them to citizens, and uses the landscape to internalize these norms in the living world. In other words, invisible discourse and power are reproduced and practiced in a way that controls, monitors, suggests, and commands through a real landscape, leading the user, the citizen, to a specific behavior. This study demonstrates through actual cases that the urban park landscape, which is a leisure space, is not simply a public good created rationally for citizens with aesthetic, utilitarian, and practical intentions, but also operates as a means of governmentality by local governments. It is significant in that it presents a new perspective on the urban leisure space landscape. |
