소록도는 지난 100년 동안 한센병이라는 이유로 격리·수용되어 사회로부터의 오해와 편견 속에서 살아가고 있는 한센인들의 애환이 서린 역사적 장소이다. 2000년대 초반부터 소록도를 보전대상으로 바라보고 보호하려는 긍정적인 노력과 결과들이 곳곳에서 발생하고 있지만, 총체적인 소록도 보전에 이르지 못한 채 분야별 단위사업 수준에 머무르고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 현 시점은 한센병과 관련하여 대한민국 역사상 그 규모와 사회적 의미가 가장 큰 한센병 질병 공동체인 소록도를 총체적인 관점에서 보전을 추구하기 위한 근원적 작업의 필요성이 대두된다. 이에 본 연구는 이러한 작업의 하나로, 소록도 변천과정 분석을 통해 지난 100년 동안의 소록도 변천 특성을 도출하는 것을 기본 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 크게 3단계로 진행한다. 1단계에서는 한센병의 개념과 계기적 사건에 따른 소록도의 변천 시기를 구분한다. 2단계에서는 소록도의 시대별 변천과정을 분석한다. 3단계에서는 2단계에서의 분석 결과를 바탕으로 공간, 주체, 행위 세 가지 관점에서 소록도를 작동시켜온 변천 특성을 도출한다. |

Sorokdo is a historical place that has been isolated from the public due to the residence of the Hansen's disease. The island is a place filled with resentment of Hansen's disease sufferers who should have lived amidst misunderstandings and prejudices of society. Since the early 2000's, there have been positive efforts to preserve Sorokdo as a place to be preserved. However, the efforts have only achieved partial regional results by business sector without reaching the conservation of the Sorokdo as a whole. From this perspective, a fundamental work is needed in order to pursue conservation of Sorokdo, which is the largest disease community of Hansen's Disease having the most social and historical significance in Republic of Korea. This study comprises one of such works, and its ultimate purpose is to identify the characteristics of Sorokdo for the past 100 years by analyzing the transition process of the Sorokdo. The first phase defines the concept of Hansen's Disease and distinguishes between the transition periods of Sorokdo according to milestone events. In the second phase, the transition process by period of the Sorokdo was analyzed. In the third phase, based on the results of the analysis in phase 2, the characteristics of the Sorokdo are identified in terms of space, subject, and behavior. |
