The axial analysis of space syntax has been widely used for predicting pedestrian flows, despite arguments raised by many researchers. Especially in Korea, the application of axial analysis has been enlarged, though few tries have been made to improve those problems. This paper focuses on the "edge betweenness centrality" index of social network analysis as a new prediction model for pedestrian flow. Although using same network structure, while axial analysis focuses on the 'relative depth', edge betweenness centrality considers the 'metric distance'. From this point, it could be expected that the geometric structure might be reflected more practically in the new proposed model. To prove the reliability of new accessibility index, simulations for several areas with different street structure were conducted and compared to the simulation result of axial analysis. Through this procedure, it has been clearly shown that the proposed model could reflect the more micro scale elements of network structure, such as intersection of edges or edge segments. |
