To investigate the current status of furniture industries located around Taegoo Kyoung-buk area, questionnaire survey was performed for 61 companies in this area. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. Most companies were small in scale, and sufferred from the lack of skilled labor and the high rate of employee movement. 2. The system of purchasing and managing materials for furniture manufacuring were unreasonable, and quality and price of materials showed great variance depending on companies. 3. Secure of skilled labor and sufficient money raising were the common interest for most companies. 4. Most companies considered furniture finishing as the most important and difficult process. 5. Most companies were suffered from difficiency of production facilities and difficulty in money raising needed for facility investment. 6. Most companies showed very low lebel in both of production and office automation. 7. Copy of the design of other domestic companies were the usual case of design development in this area 8. Most companies experienced a lot of claims on the quality of delivered furniture products, and conside red excess competement among local companies as the biggest problem in company management. Collaboration among local companies are recommended on the fields -such as exchange of information and material, joint purchase and sales, training of skilled labor, money raising, etc. Such a joint effort can be made through local Furniture Industry Cooperative Association. |
