Universities in Korea have made significant investment in facilities to meet the problems of growing number of students, aging buildings, excessive energy use, and shortage in space for lecture and research. The study aims to identify important considerations to build ¡°green campus¡± as well as to examine the ways of alleviate current problems. field studies and analysis were conducted for 5 universities located in Seoul. With the criteria laid down in each sector to evaluate components of green campus, comparative analyses were conducted on the level of environmental friendliness for the universities under study. They were studied in 20 sub-sectors in three categories of land use and transportation, resource and energy reduction, and environment protection. University A was evaluated good in 10 sub-sectors and E in 7. In each sub-sector, universities were found to be in different levels in their efforts to build green campus. This paper also found out that universities were trying in many different ways to build green campus, and this should lead to various outcomes in the future. In this regard, it will serve as a useful comparative analysis in the study of green campus efforts. |
