본 연구는 서울의 대표적 한옥밀집지역인 북촌지역의 거주자와 방문자를 대상으로 지역인지 및 영역성 차이를 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 두 집단 모두 잘 알고 있는 지역을 인지조사를 통해 도출한 후, 대상지를 공간구문론에 의한 3단계 가로위계로 구분하여 영역성 인지조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과에 의하면, 거주자는 대상지를 주거지역으로 인식하지만 방문자는 관광지나 역사문화지역으로도 인식하고 있었다. 또한, 방문자로 인해 발생하는 거주자의 생활피해에 대해서는 지역주민이 더 높게 인식하고 있었지만 행위규제 필요성에 대해서는 두 집단이 동일 수준으로 인식하고 있었다. 가로위계별 영역성 차이를 살펴보면, 위계가 높은 가로에서의 집단 간 영역성 차이는 없었지만, 위계가 낮은 가로일수록 거주자가 영역성을 높게 인식하고 있었다. 가로위계별 방문자 행위규제 필요성 차이를 살펴보면, 단순한 관찰행위에 대해서 가로위계가 높은 지역은 집단 간의 인식차이가 거의 없지만, 가로위계가 낮은 가로일수록 거주자는 사적영역으로 인식하여 방문자보다 더 높은 규제를 필요로 한다고 인식하고 있었다. |

In this study, Bukchon, the largest Hanok town in Seoul was studied to compare differences between the recognition of residents and visitors of the town in their understanding of the area and its territoriality. We conducted a cognitive study of residents and visitors to identify a region familiar to both groups. The identified target area was divided into three different road hierarchical groups based on space syntax. Then we conducted another cognitive survey on territoriality of the area. The result shows that residents of the town recognize the area as a residential area while visitors view the area as a tourist attraction or even a historical, culturally meaningful spot. In addition, residents were more aware of the disturbances done by visitors to their daily life. However, both visitors and residents shared same level of understanding on the necessity to introduce regulation on visitors behavior in the town. As for the territoriality by street hierarchical groups, the two groups showed no significant difference in recognition of territoriality in higher grade roads. But in lower grade roads, residents had higher recognition of territoriality. Regarding the necessity to introduce regulations on visitors behavior, both groups show no significant difference in perceiving general behaviors of visitors. But for streets in lower grade, residents tend to see the region as a more private area and require stronger regulations than visitors. |
