The goal of the research is to propose a master plan about deriving issues and solving process for these issues to make the area a Seoul¡¯s subcenter by using the inner-city railroad space. And then, the research analyzes the impacts of this master plan for urban regeneration. According to present condition, the ground railroad space not only degrades the city¡¯s competitiveness as a strong negative factor severing urban space, but also restricts its potential because it can not connect between the east and west of the area. In addition, the weak regional identity by cutting the community, the physical disconnection by soundproofing walls for the railroad, and the harsh environmental conditions such as noise and vibration are all barriers to the regional growth. Therefore, this study suggests a urban regeneration master plan as a catalyst that gives a boost to the area through building underground railroad instead of the current railroad on the ground. By doing so, enough pedestrian space can be provided; the access system between the east and west can be improved; and, community facilities, parks, and green spaces that are connected with the pedestrian and access system can be sited. Eventually, it will create a threedimensional and mixed-uses development for regenerating the surrounding areas. |
