The historical urban tissues in the downtown of Seoul were formed based on the geographic feature of Seoul and Confucianism. However, these historical urban tissues have been changed and even destroyed in a short time by large-scale developments, which are discontinuous and heterogeneous. Through analyzing the influences of urban management plans, i.e. land readjustment projects, urban redevelopment projects, road construction projects, etc. on the urban tissues, this study sought to find out the historical value of the downtown area reflected on the urban tissues and offer basic data for new urban management plan to preserve historical value in the urban tissues. Here the development patterns of urban tissues affected by urban management plans were explored with quantitative data, road length and -width, land share for roads, median size of land parcels in a block and their number per hectare, as well as morphological data. Ultimately, this study concluded that the historical value in the urban tissues composed with alleys and small land parcels has been damaged or even totally destroyed by large-scale urban redevelopment projects. |
